Like many of us ’80s babies, I grew up visually saturated in bright colors and bold graphics. From the graffiti in S.F., to the awesome skate and surf art, it was everywhere. Some major influences were of course, the rad Santa Cruz skate graphics of Jim Phillips, Powell Peralta, and one of my all time favorites the surf rebel squad of T&C surf. I would spend hours on end trying to emulate my Claus Grabke deck art, along with slasher and beach scenes from T&C. Today these bold styles still influence my art and graphics. Although, I am truly a oil painter at heart, I have a strong urge and love to create hard edge graphics and illustrations giving ode to my prodecessors of the 80’s and 90’s. Although they didn’t have the likes of computers and Adobe Illustrator and instead were applying true draftsmanship abilities and hands on techniques to get the job done; its all one in the same and starts from pencil and paper and good clean drawing skills. Here are some of my inspirations, as well as some select vector graphics I have done. enjoy.
