Process and Change

Knowing when something is finished is my toughest challenge for any given project big or small. I find myself mulling over small decisions and minor details for hours sometimes. Becoming prolific and confident in your choices is the only way to wrap it up.

Here is the process for the digital painting I did for Big K.R.I.T. As you can see it went through a lot of stages before ending up where it’s at. Luckily when working digitally you can make these decisions and edits easily as you go.

Recently I was honored to have some of my art/design featured in a couple cool books. ”Juxtapoz Erotica” by Ginko Press, which displays a few of my oil paintings. And “Torso, T-shirt Graphics Exposed” published by Gestalten, which features numerous of t-shirt graphics I have created for myself and other clients. Both books are available online and at select bookstores.

MENAGERIE at Modern Eden Gallery

I will be showing some of my past animal inspired drawings and studies at Modern Eden Gallery. The show is this Saturday February 12th. “State of Kinesis” recap

I know it has been a couple months since my group show “State of Kinesis” with Fernando Reyes and Peggy Gyulai. However just recently I was able to get my hands on some of the photos from the opening. Thanks again to everyone who was able to make it out, along with a big thanks to Anaya Nieto and John Hauss for making it all happen.

Holidaze

Well the holidays have passed and it’s a new year. 2010 was a very chaotic year for me. Too much moving around and not enough creating. Now that I’m officially settled, may 2011 brings good things along with endless amounts of inspiration. Happy New Year!

Here’s a few photos from this past month. I fixed up a old table , ate good, and had loads of fun with friends and family. Good times for sure but now time to get to work!

The Royal House update

Last week we headed out on the road to drop of some paintings. That will temporarily adorn the walls of the Royal House in Vegas until I can finish up the permanent commissioned pieces. The place is coming along nice and looks great. By summer time it should definitely be good to go. Here is some pictures along with the branding art did. More updates to come!

Exploring the laws of motion that govern all living things…on canvas.

Nieto Fine Art is pleased to uncover its latest collection of works: “States of Kinesis.” The show will open for the public at the gallery November 5th, 2010 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.

“Kinesis” describes the activity of an organism in response to a stimuli. In science, it shows how environment informs movement. In art, it brings raw truth to the reactions and responses of living things.

Faced with this crux of existence, these Bay Area artists roll up their sleeves: In the sultry portraits of Eric Bailey, the female form takes on gestures that are at once natural and modern, organic and sophisticated. Peggy Gyulai’s abstract works render the motion and shape of music onto canvas in active, bold strokes and cool chromatic hues. The figurative nudes of Fernando Reyes are an elegant and provocative exhibition of bodies in motion.

From the unseen causes for a woman’s expression, to the effects that music has on the motion of a brush stroke, to the forces that act upon the human body, each work represents varying states of kinesis in artful and intoxicating detail.

NEW STUDIO SPACE

My apologies for the lack of updates however I am back and all settled into the new space, so expect to see more updates regularly.

This past year or two, I bounced all over the place. However, I am very happy to say that I finally am settled with a new loft and studio!

It was hard finding a place in S.F with a pitbull, and the job title of “freelance designer /artist,” so I quickly gave up on that. Instead we (Angela and I) found an awesome work/live loft just ten minutes over the Bay Bridge in beautiful Emeryville; and it couldn’t be more perfect. Plenty of space that allows me to separate work from life, dog friendly, and close to everything—and there’s parking! We couldn’t be happier!
